Heart of Darkness

Murgleis Been on the fence about this guy for years now, but Heart Of Darkness feels like a serious creative breakthrough for ol' Rick here: a musical menagerie that brings together the best ideas of groups like Camel, Pink Floyd and Dead Can Dance...and yet somehow ends up sounding unlike anything out there past nor present. Couple that with an eerie, Gothic lyrical sense and you have yourselves a sublime LP for those late nights when you just can't bring yourself to sleep. Favorite track: Heart Of Darkness.

Justin Dark fantasy wrapped in progressive goodness! What's not to like? Favorite track: The Dark Lady.

The daylight now is gone, A darkened cloud where it shone. I feel your ghost on the breeze, A gentle dream I still need. A chill runs down my spine, The moon tells me that it’s time. It’s only now that I see, A heart of darkness for me. I wait for the touch of the night, I write, pen in hand by dim candlelight. I wait for the cut of the knife, It helps turn the wrong into right. I reach for your touch in the night, It’s only now that I see, A heart of darkness for me.

Noble knight, a champion, Upon the finest steed. Golden sword and burnished shield, Before this king I kneeled. Sworn to serve my allegiance, My ladies sword, her colours I wear. Loyal to the end. Deep, dark night you are haunting me, A thousand years have passed, And still I’m not free. I long to see the golden dawn. The blood of the Rose, Is all that’s left in my heart. Stammering and staring, It was their last hour. A madness of farewells. A man had given all other bliss And all his worldly worth for this. To waste his whole heart in one kiss. Upon her perfect lips. A blood red tear in the raven’s eye. The grandeur lost to grey. Castle walls come crashing down, Lost to those who betray. I’ve lost the heart of my lady, Shattered blade, you can’t save me. Gone for eternity. Deep, dark night you are haunting me, A thousand years have passed, And still I’m not free. I long to see the golden dawn. The blood of the Rose, Is all that’s left in my heart.

Castle Walls 05:34
Flying too close to the sun on wings of feathers and wax. The light’s fading from my eyes, the evening is calling. The sun slowly disappears in a blood red sea. The moon casts a silver veil, it’s eyes are upon me. The earth turns a ghostly pale, it sighs with the breeze. I don’t know how long it’s been since I’ve thought about you. Those dreams, the visions I’ve seen are locked in the past. But time can still shed a light, through darkness and shadows, Your ghost calls to me every night, and I must obey. I live behind castle walls, the daylight forsaken. The darkness my only true friend, whose heart I have taken. My dreams are the only escape, as they lie in waiting. The screaming of souls at night, I dare not awaken. What draws a man to the dark when light’s all around him? Like flying too close to the sun, it burns through his soul. I live behind castle walls, the daylight forsaken. The darkness my only true friend, whose heart I have taken. I wander down these darkened halls, old memories lie waiting. They hide like a thief in the night, I dare not awake them. The light’s fading from my eyes, the evening is calling. The clouds trace across the sky, they follow the breeze.
4.
Behold the Dark Lady As she enters the room. She's speaking to no one, In this festering gloom. As the darkness falls, Through the earth he crawls. Rising from the grave, One less soul to save. How oft when thou, my music, music play'st, Upon that blessed wood whose motion sounds With thy sweet fingers when thou gently sway'st The wiry concord that mine ear confounds, Without the dark of night, How can she see the light? Living in a dream, No one can hear her scream. Shadow at the door, Blood upon the floor. Roll the loaded dice, Time to pay the price.
5.
Doubt thou the stars are fire; Doubt that the sun doth move; Doubt truth be a liar; But never doubt I love. A snowflake in May as my heart reaches back to the day. A flower in June, have I come back for you too soon? A storm in July brings the water to the land. A falling star on an August night means the answer is at hand. The moonlight shows on the trees at night, As I walk this lonely path. Your ghost has haunted my heart so long, It's a tether to the past. So please be gone for I'm not as strong, As the man we both knew. Time is no longer on my side, If I cannot be with you. An eagle flies from the western sky, As an Omen from a dream. It's meaning now is clear to me, But my eyes refuse to see. So please be gone for I'm not as strong, As the man we once knew. Time is no longer on my side, If I cannot be with you.
