The Dark Lady

about

The darkness never rests. It just waits patiently for the light to fade.

This song is loosely based upon the ‘Dark Lady’ sonnets of William Shakespeare (127 - 154). With the commencement of these sonnets, there is a marked change of tone from that of serene reflection on a love that has been almost eternized, to a slightly disturbed analysis of a passion which is at times close to frenzy. The music is predictably dark and contains excerpts read from Sonnets 147 and 128.

lyrics

Behold the Dark Lady
As she enters the room.
She's speaking to no one,
In this festering gloom.

As the darkness falls,
Through the earth he crawls.
Rising from the grave,
One less soul to save.

How oft when thou, my music, music play'st,
Upon that blessed wood whose motion sounds
With thy sweet fingers when thou gently sway'st
The wiry concord that mine ear confounds,

Without the dark of night,
How can she see the light?
Living in a dream,
No one can hear her scream.

Shadow at the door,
Blood upon the floor.
Roll the loaded dice,
Time to pay the price.
