Old Souls

by Rick Miller

Nickie Harte Kelly
Nickie Harte Kelly thumbnail
Nickie Harte Kelly This is progressive rock in the style of the 70’s, which for me, is decidedly not a bad thing. Rick is the composer, producer, and primary performer on vocals, guitars, bass and keyboards, and is joined by others on flutes, cello, additional guitars, violins and percussion. Taking cues from many of that era’s giants, here Rick examines some themes from classic literature. He also visits philosophical questions, the passage of time, destiny and visitations with those who have gone before. Favorite track: Guinevere.
George Wilhite

George Wilhite This is some excellent prog rock in the classical mode. Miller’s warning rings true—this is superb symphonic prog—don’t come expecting anything else.
Favorite track: Don Quixote.

Time's Way 08:36
Breathe in my soul, Your heart longs to know. To stay or to go, to have and to hold. Breathe in my soul. Dream of me, a voice in the dark. Take me home, old souls never part. Shadows cast by sins of the past. Time will have it’s way. Darkness fills your soul with light, Drifting now again. Your mind is lost in ghostly dreams, A shadows calls your name. The years go rushing by, Time’s not on your side. Tears not meant to cry, The voices call again. Dream of me, a voice in the dark. Take me home, old souls never part. Shadows cast by sins of the past. Time will have it’s way

Guinevere 03:07
Like joy and pain, With tears and smiles from heaven once again. The maiden spring, Came in a sunlit fall of gentle rain. A man had given all his bliss, And all his worldly worth for this, To take forever his only wish, The heart of Guinevere. Through sun and shade, The happy winds upon her played. A tearful song, A time to wonder how it all went wrong. A man had given all his bliss, And all his worldly worth for this, To waste his whole heart in one kiss, Upon her perfect lips. (Acknowledgement to A.L. Tennyson)

Haunt Me 04:41
Your words are like raindrops, They fall upon my shoulders but I still can’t see. I know someday somehow, Time will have it’s way, A final act to play. Haunt me, taunt me, Your voice is singing softly but the words don’t reach. Watch me, want me, If destiny is real, what can the answer be? Haunt me, taunt me, Your voice is singing softly but the words don’t reach. Watch me, want me, If destiny is real, what can the answer be? At the end of the day, He knows what’s meant to be, Will always find a way. But time has the last say, as it slips away.

The Red Sky 04:29
My world is a dark place. The daylight given way, To ghosts of shadows long past. In silent beds they lay. The sky is painted red. The hilltops mark the dead. I know of a forest, Where dreams go to die. To breathe in the darkness, And hear the angels cry. The sky is painted red. The hilltops mark the dead. The forest floor is black as night, On which I’ll make my bed.

All paths are the same, leading nowhere, So choose a path with heart, always knowing. The dying sun will glow on you now. The wind will be soft and mellow. As your dance comes to an end, You look into the sun. Never to be seen again, The final chapter done. The road I’m on will soon be gone, As the sun sets to the west. I can see my hands in the dreams I’ve had, Does that mean I’ve passed the test? The dying sun has shone on you now. The wind has been soft and mellow. As your dance comes to an end, You look into the sun. Never to be seen again, The final chapter done. (Acknowledgement to Carlos Castaneda)

A stitch in time, Has bent my mind. One day, today. A stitch in time. A stitch in time saves nine.

Don Quixote 12:21
Where have all the heroes gone? Of knightly deeds and battles won. The world has lost it’s need for men, Of chivalry and moral sense. When life itself seems lunatic, Who knows where madness lies? The maddest thing a man can do, Is waiting here to die. Finally after so little sleeping, And so much reading, His brain dried up, and he went, Completely out of his mind. The books I read by candle light, Have shown me truth, The righteous fight. A knight in armour I shall be, With loyal squire, And noble steed. (Acknowledgement to Miguel Cervantes)

about

The Old Souls physical CD is available from PPR in Germany at: www.ppr-shop.de/epages/62161184.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/62161184/Products/PPR-098

This is my most recent album, in the genre of what I would call Progressive Rock. That term defining (in my opinion), the type of music that was made famous throughout the 70s by bands such as Genesis, The Moody Blues and Pink Floyd. The music is soft, dark and melodic with the occasional edge, because that's the way I like it. So if your idea of Prog Rock is heavy metal and jazz fusion, then it is unlikely you will find anything of interest here. I do hope you enjoy though.. and thanks for listening.
