Incubus

lyrics

Beyond the flickering candle light,
In the shadows, enchanting and calm,
Two eyes shone, so dark, so bright,
A creature resplendent in devilish charm

All at once she caught her breath,
Heart pounding like a drum,
The piercing fear of expectant death,
The anticipation of what was to come.

As he watched her with the faintest smile,
She was motionless and paralysed with fear,
Eyes closed tight and confused by the strange beguile,
Down her cheek meandered a trembling tear.

And so the Apollonian beast moved near,
His hand slipped behind her neck and stroked her hair,
He whispered the charms of ancient years,
Until at last she no longer cared.

Covering her face, an intoxicating shroud,
The arching of flesh and heightened bliss,
The dance of the dark like a thunderous cloud,
She craved the burn of the hot, hard kiss.

And he lay her down upon devil's anvil,
She was helpless to resist, losing her mind,
Burning was the forge and extreme was the thrill,
Demon and mortal so fiercely entwined,

As the eternal night gave way to the glittering dawn,
All that remained were the bruises and the pain,
Her face felt cold from first light's scorn,
She wondered if he would come again.
