The Raven

Moonlight bright and forest deep,
The trees fell silent for a secret they did keep,
In her eyes there burned a smouldering fire,
The angel of dark and carnal desire.

Her whispers caressed the ancient words,
From the trees she charmed the black-feathered bird,
The spell was cast upon the darkening sky,
The moon shone in the raven's eye.

Her whispers did call the ancient ways,
And spoke of lust and dangerous days,
He was hers to charm with such forbidden things,
Her spell danced on the raven's wings.

As he drifted into the twilight world,
The dream was upon him, the wings unfurled,
The mist rose around him, to his knees he did fall,
Her whispers were hidden in the raven's call

Begging for mercy, he thrashed and screamed,
His torment burned bright in the darkest dream,
With all his strength no escape could he seek,
A lock of hair was in the raven's beak.

When the sun again shared its golden flames,
And the night snatched back its sinister games,
He lay alone, confused and forlorn,
A feather on his pillow, the raven was gone.

Every night the dark dream came,
From the twilight he would hear her whispering his name,
Of heat and flesh and relentless desire,
He was desperate to escape the burn of the fire.

And then one night he remained wide awake,
To end the torment was the vow he did take,
Taking his bow he loosed a poisoned dart,
The arrow pierced the raven's heart.

And through the forest echoed a deafening scream,
As the raven fell to earth so did the dark dream,
The curse broken, the dark angel consigned to hell,
At last he lay peaceful, no longer under her spell.
